Vision  6 by 6: Since 2012

Children with undiagnosed visual acuity issues often are unaware that this isn’t normal. They find it difficult to keep up with blackboard teaching, subsequently losing interest. Such kids maybe labelled as dull by the supervising adults.

 

Owing to such reasons, at a young age these children can develop an aversion to attending school. The motivation behind our project, “Vision Six by Six,” was that this aversion could be prevented. 
           

Our primary objective is to diagnose & treat refractory errors. Our secondary objective is to deliver eye care for problems other than refractory error (such as Vit A deficiency, squint, cataracts, conjunctivitis etc.).

 

The programme was awarded as an outstanding project by Rotary International and our club was felicitated prior to the RI convention in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2013 (link). We have served more than 15,000 kids under this programme till date.

 

We have made Vitamin A supplementation and frequent eye check ups an integral part of most of our health check up camps . The club ties up with other rotaract clubs carrying out free eye check ups or invites optometrists at the camps to keep the project going and make the maximum be benefitted by it.
