Prophylaxis
The layman is often intrigued by the way doctors cure their disease and with the advent of the internet, there is an information overload on the common public. Prophylaxis- an educational initiative of Rotaract Club of Caduceus is an attempt to provide the correct information to the common population on medical issues that they might encounter.

· Topic for week1: Additional information to keep in mind while lifting weights.
A first aid guide was sent out during the week before proposed of lifting properly and this week additional information was rolled out with details on:
- Principles of lifting viz Preparation, Lifting, Carrying, Setting down.
- Each principle was explained in brief with the dos and don’ts
· Topic for week 2: Prophylaxis of dehydration.
A first aid guide was sent out with details on:
- What is dehydration?
- What are the signs of dehydration?
- How to know that you are dehydrated?
- What can you do to prevent dehydration?
- What should be avoided in order to prevent dehydration?
· Topic for week 3:Prophylaxis for Tuberculosis
On the occasion of World Tuberculosis day a Prophylaxis message was rolled out giving information on TB. A first aid guide was sent out with details on:
- What is Tuberculosis?
- Phases of Tuberculosis
- Spread of Tuberculosis
- What should you do when you have Tuberculosis
- What should be avoided to prevent Tuberculosis
- Awareness of the DOT program
· Topic for week4: Prophylaxis for acne.
A first aid guide was sent out with details on:
- What is acne?
- Effect of weather on acne
- Lifestyle changes with the dos and don’ts that can be followed to prevent acne.
A Whatsapp message was created with information along with source of the info and other details. The message was sent out and circulated on all Whatsapp groups, to friends and family, non medicos alike. The topics chosen were prophylaxis on how to stop a panic attack, food items that can improve your mood and relapse of depression Care was taken to keep the language lucid and easy to comprehend by the general public.

The endeavor was successful in serving its purpose of sensitizing and apprising a large population about what to do in cases where an ambulance or doctor is not readily available.

This project can easily be called the most popular project amongst family members of the directors as well as the district team and other clubs alike with it’s unique sense of connecting with the layman to a different level.
Prophylaxis was initiated primarily to help create a better understanding of the layman about healthcare, injury prevention, emergency techniques,
first aid, etc.
Every week, a message about one such healthcare topic was circulated, to sensitise
and apprise as many people as we can about what to do in cases where an ambulance or doctor
is not readily available. Over 4000 individuals have been benefitted by this information the year
around.
