Antilitter Campaign: Since 2017

Mountain of rubbish: Rotaract Club of The Caduceus organises treks for its bookwormed medical candidates, to explore the nature and live life to the fullest. Climbers wanting to scale Mounts are advised to bring back bags full of rubbish in a bid to clean-up the precious natural peaks.

This encourages cleanliness and preservation of the nature and promotes healthy lifestyle for the mountain dwelling persons and creatures. Ultimately, the success of the regulation  will depend on how strictly we monitor its progress.

Hence, Rotaract Club of The Caduceus joined hands with Switch India in its antilitter mission to clean the mountain tops and make the trek worthwhile . The club also promotes the cause and gives away incentives for cleanliness measures taken by other organisations or troops in lines of the programme.

Anti-litter Campaign: The idea was to serve the community, save our Mother nature as well as
enjoy doing the same which automatically attracted more volunteers to help this noble cause. These campaigns were carried out at trekking venues that have become dumping grounds
and require the need for urgent action to be taken in support of The Swachh Bharat Mission
undertaken by the Prime Minister and the Government of India.

Initially the volunteers would trek the mountains, collect the garbage on their way in plastic bags, get the bags back to the base and would dump them at a government disposal site. In a later stage, many other trekking groups were invited to collaborate and were rewarded for their good work at different areas.

For a sustainable and innovative solution to this problem, the club installed dustbins designed to be light weighed, easily portable, sustainable in terms of strength and durability, occupying less space, cost effective , reproducible and ecofriendly on fort so as to collect the waste plastic at one place which will be easy to carry dispose at a proper place. Jute bags are tied to each of the dustbins which when full are expected to be tied, closed & brought back to the city to empty them at a proper place.

As we have noticed this season, all our favourite mountains have become a dumpyard of plastic. Isn't encountering tons of plastic waste- crushed bottles, soggy bags- on those once virgin mountains taking a toll on you?
