SEMICOLON - October
Date: 10th October, 2017
Project SEMICOLON is dedicated to the prevention of suicide. A semicolon is used whenever the author chooses NOT to end a sentence. We are the authors of our own lives, not to end it just yet. We believe that everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide through raising public awareness, educating communities, and equipping every person with the right tools, and thereby save lives.

At the Rotaract club of Caduceus, we began an online portal where groups of interested members were formed. 10th October was World Mental Health Day.
Taking this opportunity we tried to do our part to break the barriers, stretch out our hands and render our support to those undergoing depression. About 90 members participated in the project.

A message was circulated around in the Whatsapp group created for this project where members were asked to keep sending quotes, poems, muses, etc related to depression and how to fight it. Members were also asked to draw a semicolon on their wrists to show their support towards people fighting depression and send us the photographs. Over a period of one month the quotes, messages and photos sent by various people were uploaded on the facebook page.

All the people sailing in same boat, fighting depression and anxiety share their stories on the group, ask for advices, motivate each other and be a support system to the rest. Motivational and inspirational messages are still being forwarded and penned by our fellow members till date, making the people in crisis believe that they are not alone, and ending life is not even an option. Many of our members have shared their experiences and their battle to such life threatening thoughts and have helped many people to add a semicolon to their life instead of a full stop.
A lot has been spoken about mental health and we considered that it would be good to know our member’s thoughts on the same and it actually turned out to much more positive than we expected.
