We have several health camps being conducted throughout the year and one such was held at MES VIDYAMANDIR, Navi Mumbai. In addition to our meticulous checkup we also had a prime focus to deliver information about First Aid to all the children and about Adolescent Reproductive and Sex Education to the children belonging to std 8-10.
The First Aid workshop was meant for all the children which taught them the importance of hygiene, wound healing and dressing, first aid in case of vomiting, dizziness, fracture, heat strokes and so on. Special powerpoint presentations were flashed on the screen to portray a better understanding through pictures and videos keeping the kids engaged at all times.
It was an interactive session with all the queries and doubts being cleared by our caduceans. Subsequently a questionnaire was circulated and evaluated to judge the information grasped by the children and the results were astonishingly exalted.
A special Adolescent Reproductive and Sex Education Programme was conducted for the students of 8th to 10th standard. Students were taught about the basic bodily changes, male and female anatomy respectively by diagrams made on the black board.
Menstrual terms and hygiene were well explained in layman’s terms. Substantial amount of emphasis was laid on the awareness about Sexually transmitted diseases, protection and contraceptives. A doubt solving session was conducted for them as well.
It was surprising to note, how our society still fails to understand our own body and refrains from discussing about it openly. Our volunteers were more than happy and satiated to lend out their knowledge and information for bringing about awareness, thereby boosting their confidence to speak about such topics in public where it is still considered as a taboo.
