Koraigad Trek (Anti-Litter Campaign)

Date: 17th of December 2017

The existence of mankind is threatened daily by environmental setbacks in the world. The setbacks differ country by country. The one thing we do have in common is that it is all up to mankind to preserve and maintain the beauty of the places we chose to live in.

Studying medicine in itself is never easy but we know it’s all going to be worth it! So taking frequent breaks is a healthy habit to remain mentally and physically fit. Hence, to promote mental and physical fitness we organized a two day trek i.e on the 16th and 17th of December 2017.  to Koraigad, Lonavala as a part of the anti litter campaign.

The project being  under the anti-litter campaign, the idea was to serve the community, save the nature as well as enjoy doing that, and to encourage participation in this noble cause and improve health by indulging into the most interesting sport- TREKKING.

The trek began with an introduction session amongst the volunteers, they were also told about the antilitter campaign to which majority agreed to lend out their support and service. We reached Lonavala at around 4 from where we rested for an hour and started the trek. The trek was for around 3 hours and we managed to reach our destination by 9:00pm.

It was followed by dinner and other fun activities like bonfire, games and making our own tent. We left in the morning after early breakfast and started the journey down. On our way down, we collected all the waste which was present all around, dumped by ignorant people as a part of the anti litter campaign which aims as making the environment clean.

Our team of trekkers managed to pick up around 6 kg of waste on their way down with the end result of leaving the place cleaned and cleared for others to have a better experience of nature without the waste. It was a great chance for our volunteers to experience camping and treks and appreciate the nature.

It was an intense trek but totally worth it. We came home proud with our heads held high.
