As soon as we hear the word stress, the first thing that comes to my mind is unwanted guests who knock the door of my life every now and then. After stepping in the field of medicine, the stress level has kept fluctuating more than the petrol prices. Stress has become a part of life for each and every teenager.

The root cause of stress and other health related problems like depression are mainly the competition and peer pressure we have faced since school days. When I recollect my school days, I remember the competition between the parents to send their children from one class to another fearing that their children would be left out. The burden of this would lay on the shoulder of poor children. Luckily my parents were sensible enough to let me do what I wanted and not follow the trend that every parent did.

From my experience, I have dealt with stress and have overcome it in very simple ways. It’s not very difficult to handle stress if we know how to tackle our minds. Once we have the control over our minds, it’s possible to solve some of the biggest problems in our life.

Here are few of ‘fundas’ of my life that set me free from stress.

Technique No 1.

To start with; our body is made up of energy. If you ponder upon it, the starting point of stress are the thoughts that goes in our minds like a chain reaction one after the other. Consider that every thought is a wave. If we sit on a beach, the waves keep coming and get replaced by new ones.

Similarly, we need to let go the negative vibes or waves and let positive ones replace them.

For example, during exams we get stressed up because of the thought that ‘What if I can’t complete the portion?’ or ‘How will I be able to do it in such a short span of time? I’m definitely going to fail’.

To overcome this negative wave, one simple trick can be used. Just stand out and look at the sky staring at it till the eyes get watery. Then immediately close your eyes and you will be blank without any thought. At this moment, you are supposed to tell to yourself that ‘I have all the power in this world and I can do it. Nothing can stop me’. Nature has got tremendous power to absorb the negative energy and fill us with positive energy.

Technique No. 2

Take out at least half an hour and go for a walk or close the room and start dancing as if no one is seeing. Doing any sort of work, diverts the energy and helps to change the current waves in our mind. After doing any sort of work, just close your eyes and you will feel a deep sense of peace where you will be in a state of mind without thoughts.

My personal experience

This is the incident that took place during my prelims. It was a day before my biochemistry practical exam, I was supposed to memorize each of the experiments by heart. I had partially learnt few of them out of a list of 20. I am that type of person who can handle last minute stress. I started learning them but at the back of my mind, the thought of not being able to complete it by the next day, didn’t allow me to be very efficient enough to learn the experiments.
A time came where I gave up and started crying. That same moment my mom coincidently walked in, saw me crying. That day my mom was the one who motivated me. She told me to stand in front of the mirror and tell that I have all the power and no one can stop me from doing it.
After that without wasting another minute, I got back to my table and started with the first experiment without thinking about the rest. Trust me, before dinner I had already completed 15 of them. I was surprised by myself and that day I truly believed that if you believe in yourself, no one can stop you from achieving what you want in life.
